Mama, Scosha Woolridge Owner, founder & designer of Scosha jewellery shares with munsterkids some down right realness about creative living and home life in Brooklyn NYC. Together with husband Jo, kids Summit and Pharaoh they have a "really really loud and hilarious house" full of creativity, whimiscal fun and "4 bosses always at one time" . We love families who are making their dreams work one day at a time, inspiring the rest of us to reach for the stars......
Your Jewellery is so unique! To have such a successful handcrafted label in a world of mass production is inspiring.. how do you make time for your craft and raising a family?
Luckily I have built a good team over the last 10 years so I don’t have to do everything under the sun like I use to. I still put in a solid 8-9 hour day and do have to work some weekends or late nights/travel when I have a deadline, but I try to keep the weekends for my kids, and during the weekdays I try to always be home for dinner, bath time, home work and my favorite fun, made up story telling before bed. Also Jo, my husband is pretty involved, he does all the drop offs and pick ups, he also runs his own company so this plays a big part in giving me the time I need to get my work done in the studio with out the anxiety of having to run out the door to pick up the kids.
Like most mums, there’s not much free time, and I’m often the first one to crash out during our fun story telling mid sentence!
I always wish I could do more and spend more time with them, it’s forever a guilty feeling that I should be doing more, I know lots of mums feel like this.
Your work and your family life is creatively inspired, How important is teaching your kids to practise creativity and do you think its an important part of parenting?
It think that depends on your kid, and what they need if its important. Our kids happen to be 3 dimensional thinkers and do overly express themselves creatively and it comes very naturally, so we make sure they have an out let for that, like drama classes, music lessons, tons of drawing and painting, sports, etc. My son Summit started a comic book company and sold 8 of his comics on the street yesterday in 30 mins and made $20. Pharaoh my daughter is always in some weird costume she created and demands the kitchen as her stage. They are both super bossy, competitive and want to be the leaders of everything they do. You can imagine our house hold, we have 4 bosses in our home at all times, it can get really really loud and hilarious when we’re all trying to win our way!

I really want my kids to learn self confidence over anything else, and empathy!
What do you believe to be the three most important steps to living a creative life?
I don’t know if I can stick to just 3!
Be true to what you do, even if you are unclear what your message is, if you love it then your are on the right path. It’s when you start doing things that other people want you to do, and you try to please to many people that you become unstuck and loose your way.
Step away from your work when you can, it’s not always easy for many reasons, work, school, financial, but it’s so necessary to get that perspective, and allow for new inspiration.
Take risks, explore and be ok with your mistakes, perfection doesn’t exist.
There is so many talented and Hungry people in your field, and some people that don’t have to work so hard to get the same thing you want to achieve, but when you start comparing yourself with others your going to get all messed up. Don’t get caught up. I know if I look at to much IG or do to much research, I feel flat and wind up screwy in the head, and wish I could exile and sit in a cave somewhere on a deserted island, it takes me a few days to re-ground myself, so I try to limit the phone.
Technology is such a genius tool and also such a disturbing wicked curse.
Jo doesn’t do any social media at all, he has someone do his social platforms, so I notice he stays much more centered. He also meditates consistently, where as I’m a sporadic at my meditation practice and if I have to much anxiety it virtually feels impossible to give myself that time. Got a work on that !
Whats next for you and your family?
Both Jo and I are working on separate big projects, so we have buckled down, and are grinding through it, it’s always such an exciting but uncomfortable process after getting something up and running, and then being in the thick of it. It’s also a time when we both come home extra exhausted and still have to parent. Somehow we manage...maybe just a few extra grey hairs. We both stopped drinking 3 months ago, because the evening glass of wine reward started becoming a bigger reward each evening, pharaoh would say “do you need some wine Muma” and Summit would always say “wine is bad” and ask us “why do you always have to drink it”.
Thought we should sober up for a while and see how it goes, so far so good, and we’ve saved quite a lot of cash!
What about Brooklyn and home inspires you and you would like to share with the world?
Brooklyn is wonderfully diverse in culture, it’s packed with so many cool neighbourhoods and communities and of course lots creative people doing so many things all the time.

Scosha: Communicate with your family, And strive to get to know the truth within yourself as deeply as possible
Summit: Be brave and stick up for kids who are belling bullied
Pharaoh: Don’t forget to feed your pets. And don’t say “I can’t “ because you can !
