This week on the Kidlife blog we speak to the family behind Blacklist Studio! Nathan, Jaynie, Willow, Dare and Rocky Share with us the fundamentals of livin, creativity and family life.
Tell us about the family behind blacklist studio?
There are five of us. Each of us quite different and unique. We love to work together, play together, rest together, do most things together. We are a tight unit and spend a LOT of time together, which we love. Our most-loved things to do together are either adventuring outdoors, or being at home. It is a family of dichotomy and contradiction.
Whats on your heart when creating and designing?
Love is where it began and where it ends, and in the middle is mostly nature, primarily the ocean, peace, wonder, simplicity and joy. Each piece that we create starts with an intention of wanting to bring a certain message or feeling into the world . Obviously they are never new messages, but we hope to bring them into being through our own unique ways.

Where can we find your fam on the weekends?
In winter the soccer ovals and netball courts of the Sutherland Shire.
Hopefully the snow as much as possible aswell.
All other seasons we are at Boat Harbour,
The National Park, the bay or home in the yard with friends.

How do you balance life, creativity, work and fun?
We don’t. We have personally never subscribed to the philosophy of balance. We embarked pretty early on pursuing careers that we loved and didn’t feel onorous. We wanted work to be creative and fun, thankfully it is. When we started a family, we decided that the children would have the opportunity to be a part of our process. They have all grown up with BLACKLIST so it all feels very natural to them (we think).

What inspires you and your family?
Eachother. Our friends. Our family. Our community.
We are so lucky to be able to be a part of an amazing community of people with really diverse abilities. It has been our life’s greatest gift to be able to live surrounded by diversity, and to be constantly inspired (and supported) by a wonderful group of individuals and their families who live with various disabilities. It has shaped our personal values and changed our personal priorities in a profound and positive way. I don’t know that this could have ever happened if it wasn’t for having the most incredible opportunity (thanks Dare).

Any wisdom from the munsterkids?
Make friends with families and individuals with disabilities. It will change how you view the world, it will bring a deep joy and will make your kids way more empathetic and interesting (research proves it). As our kids are constantly saying, “all our friends are different and we love them all the same”
