MUNSTERKIDS FAMILIES | Courtney Humphreys

MUNSTERKIDS FAMILIES | Courtney Humphreys
We’re a pretty passionate and spirited bunch, a little bit wild, a little rugged, a big bit loud and a big bit crazy. I am a stylist, a creative director, and right now the kids take after me. We then have our protector, so quiet and so serious, the man of the house, who is happy not to keep up.
A family of five, we live in the beachy burbs in the south of Sydney and our lives revolve around sport and anything that takes us into nature. We love to move, we love to create, we love to explore and we love to have fun.
How are you staying inspired during this time whilst at home?
The first thing I need to do every day is to wake up and fill the house with music…, exercise is after coffee, and then we can begin.
Nature has never been more beautiful than what it is right now and we’ve really taken the time to appreciate it in its all its glory. Home schooling is hard work, but we have loved the freedom from schedule.… We’ve been surfing with dolphins, horse riding, building half pipes, bike riding, dancing a lot, cooking a lot - making it up as we go, cutting and reshaping our clothes, sanding and repainting furniture… I’ve moved from journalism studies onto a bachelor of psychology, sociology and philosophy which is where the arts meet human sciences, this has kept my mind busy and unlocked a whole new world of creativity. I’m very good at finding ways to busy myself, not so good at doing nothing.
Give us some insight into how you manage the juggle between creativity, work & family life?
Ahhhh, the illusive balance I am always chasing. I’m full of dreams and ideas, constantly in a fantasy world, however I also relish in the simplicity of baking bread… then throw in some SUPER busy kids… Some weeks I win, some weeks I lose, some days I’m scared I won’t get to see all the things I want to see, but I’ve learnt to slow down, be in the moment and that tomorrow is always a new day.
I’m driven by nostalgia, by people and their stories, by nature and the evolving life of my kids.
I think the key to creativity is to not have tunnel vision, to breathe, we are surrounded by beautiful imperfections, there is no one way to be creative, for me it’s about flow and living for right now, and to remember you have nothing to prove.
